VMware Certified Professional 6 – Cloud (VCP6-Cloud)
Earning VMware Certified Professional 6 – Cloud (VCP6-Cloud) certification validates that you have the skills and experience needed to effectively install, configure, and administer a cloud environment using VMware vCloud® Automation Center and its related components. VCP6-Cloud status shows that you not only have a solid foundation in managing successful vSphere environments, but that you also understand cloud infrastructure concepts including public/private/hybrid clouds, multi-tenancy, and cloud security.
Companies with VCP6-Cloud certified individuals on staff ensure their organization has the skills and expertise to fully utilize VMware solutions when transitioning virtualized data centers to a cloud environment.
To earn the VCP6-Cloud you need to follow one of these two paths:
Path 1 (for current VCP credential holders): Candidates who already possess a valid VCP credential need only pass the requisite exam. Training is still recommended but not required.
Path 2 (for non-VCP credential holders): In addition to passing the required exam, those just starting out in a cloud career must complete one of the following training courses:
- vCloud Automation Center: Install, Configure, Manage [V6.0] (available in classroom, live online, and on-demand format)
- vCloud Automation Center: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.2] (only accepted as a prerequisite until May 8, 2015)
Either way, candidates must demonstrate core vSphere skills by extending data virtualization throughout the cloud. They’ll be asked to create and manage vApps, service catalogs and organization/provider VDCs, and to administer cloud-enabled networking and storage. Key concepts and platforms covered include VMware vSphere environments, public/private/hybrid clouds, multi-tenancy and cloud security.

The progression (and areas of specialization) for these certs are pretty plain from their titles, and it’s clear that VMware is building an entire cert ladder around the cloud. Remember, VMware is updating and replacing certs in its program to reflect new technologies, so check the VMware certification site and roadmap for the latest information.

Those already possessing a valid VCP credential are not required to take the recommended training.
