Oracle Virtualization Certifications
In addition to its acquisition of server hardware platform and operating systems and the Java programming language, Oracle acquired the VirtualBox software when it bought Sun in 2009.
Today, VirtualBox is known as Oracle VM VirtualBox x86. It’s licensed in an open source form under the GNU GPL and in a proprietary commercial form with additional features. Although Oracle VM (as the commercial form is usually known) and VirtualBox (as the open source form is often called) don’t enjoy the same market share as VMware or Citrix, they are extremely popular and widely used around the world.
Oracle offers three virtualization certifications: two x86 Certified Implementation Specialists and a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3 Certified Implementation Specialist. The most popular of these credentials is the Oracle VM 3.0 for x86 Certified Implementation Specialist. The credential deals with installing and configuring the Oracle VM Server, Agent and Manager, and delves into the details involved in using and deploying Oracle VM templates. The third credential recognizes individuals who deploy solutions that incorporate Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Sun Ray products.
These credentials carry interesting heft within the Oracle Partner Network (OPN), because companies that employ individuals who earn it are identified as Oracle VM Specialization partners as well.
As with other virtualization credentials on this list, the Oracle Certified Implementation Specialist cert is likely to be of interest only for those who already work with or around Oracle VM, or who are interested in working for an organization that uses this virtualization platform.
